French electric car sales hit a new high in March

In March, new passenger car registrations in France increased by 24% year-on-year to 182,713 vehicles, driving first-quarter registrations to 420,890 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 15.2%.

However, the most noteworthy development is in the field of electric cars, which is currently booming. According to data from L’Avere-France, around 48,707 new electric cars were registered in France in March, an increase of 48% year-on-year, including 46,357 electric passenger cars, an increase of 47% year-on-year, accounting for 25.4% of the overall market share, up from 21.4% in the same period last year.

It is worth noting that all these figures, including electric car registrations and market share, have reached historic highs. This achievement is attributed to the record-breaking sales of pure electric cars, as well as the strong sales of plug-in hybrid cars.

In March, the number of pure electric passenger cars registered in France was 30,635, a year-on-year increase of 54%, with a market share of 16.8%; the number of plug-in hybrid cars registered was 15,722, a year-on-year increase of 34%, with a market share of 8.6%; the number of light commercial pure electric vehicles registered was 2,318, a year-on-year increase of 76%, with a market share of 6.6%; and the number of light commercial plug-in hybrid vehicles registered was 32, a year-on-year decrease of 46%.
