Core technology of new energy vehicles in China

The main applications of high-performance rare earth permanent magnet materials in new energy vehicles include drive motors, micro motors and other auto parts. Drive motor is one of the three core components of new energy vehicles. Drive motors are mainly divided into DC motors, AC motors and hub motors. At present, permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM), AC asynchronous motors, DC motors and switched reluctance motors are widely used in the field of new energy vehicles. Since the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) has the characteristics of lighter weight, smaller volume and higher operating efficiency. At the same time, while ensuring the speed, the weight of the motor can be reduced by about 35%. Therefore, compared with other drive motors, permanent magnet synchronous motors have better performance and more advantages, and are widely adopted by most new energy vehicle manufacturers.

In addition to drive motors, auto parts such as micro motors also require high-performance rare earth permanent magnet materials, such as EPS motors, ABS motors, motor controllers, DC/DC, electric vacuum pumps, vacuum tanks, high-voltage boxes, data acquisition terminals, etc. Each new energy vehicle consumes about 2.5kg to 3.5kg of high-performance rare-earth permanent magnet materials, which are mainly consumed in drive motors, ABS motors, EPS motors, and various microelectronics used in door locks, window regulators, wipers and other auto parts. motor. Since the main components of new energy vehicles have high requirements on the performance of magnets, such as strong magnetic force and high precision, there will not be any materials that can replace high-performance rare earth permanent magnet materials in the short term.

The Chinese government has issued a series of policies to support the development of new energy vehicles, including plug-in hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles, with the goal of achieving a 20% penetration rate of new energy vehicles by 2025. The sales volume of pure electric vehicles in China will increase from 257,000 units in 2016 to 2.377 million units in 2021, with a CAGR of 56.0%. Meanwhile, between 2016 and 2021, sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles in China will grow from 79,000 units to 957,000 units, representing a CAGR of 64.7%.Volkswagen ID4 electric car
